More About Your Role
Reporting to a Business Development Manager, you will join a new team in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. You will partner with an Outside Sales Manager in a territory that is based on a given number of companies who are a likely fit. While we will provide training, we'll look to you to showcase your self-initiative right off the bat: we'll give you the tools and resources, but it will be up to you to study and learn our complex products, industry, and sales cycle.
We'll provide you with a database of thousands of companies in your territory for you to call. Most of them already have been identified as a potential fit for our solutions, but there are some about which we have little information. At the same time, to excel in this role you will do your own prospecting -- we'll expect that about 20% of the calls you make will be to companies that you have found, on your own initiative, outside our database.
Selling solutions is very different than selling, for example, widgets. Clients put a great deal of consideration and evaluation into making a significant investment that will impact their entire business. The typical sales cycle is six months, and one of your key goals will be to lay the groundwork for a relationship that will last long after implementation. You will need to get a good grasp of each client's goals, concerns, and aspirations.
No two sales cycles are exactly alike, but to give you a sense of the position, you typically will start by trying to reach C-level executives (CEO, CIO, COO, etc), then target midlevel managers (controllers, plant managers, accounting managers), and finally reach out to IT departments. The conversations you'll initiate will involve understanding the company's products and services, what software they currently use, and what their needs are. If you get a "nibble," you would then find out about timelines, budgets, and priorities. Finally, you would pass the information along to your outside partner to follow up on.
In addition, you will respond to incoming requests from potential clients, and discuss current system requirements to uncover potential software sales opportunities. You also will update our Clientele system with market data and maintain current customer detail information and call notes.
